Hampshire, UK – Ian Paton has officially secured the Guinness World Record for growing the heaviest pumpkin globally. His named pumpkin, Bagheera, weighed an astounding 1,295.8 kg (approximately 2,856 pounds) when officially measured on October 3rd. This record surpasses the previous one also set by Paton and his brother in October 2025.
Paton's dedication was immense, involving up to six hours daily in his greenhouse for two months. Despite challenging heatwaves in the UK, he managed the extreme conditions by shading his pumpkin's leaves and providing substantial water. A pumpkin can grow from golf-ball size to full maturity in just 120 days, gaining significant weight daily.
Experts have hailed Bagheera as a remarkable specimen in the history of fruiting plants. While massive, it is noted that Bagheera's circumference is smaller than Paton's previous record-holder, Muggle. Bagheera is currently on display until the end of October before being composted.
