Champ, a resilient 10-year-old Yorkie mix, has captured hearts by winning the PEOPLE's World's Cutest Rescue Dog Contest. His journey began as a stray on the streets of Texas, where he was rescued with a severe back leg injury.
Veterinarians recommended amputation for Champ's injured leg to provide him with the best chance at a pain-free life. Following his successful surgery and recovery, he was transferred to Wagging Tails Rescue in New York.
Susan Carmody adopted Champ in November 2023, drawn to his spirit despite his physical challenges. She renamed him Champ, a fitting title for a dog who thrives with incredible enthusiasm.
Beyond his contest win, Champ is now a certified therapy dog, bringing comfort and smiles to various locations including airports and schools. He also visits Carmody's special education classroom, where he's a celebrated guest, spreading joy and reminding students of their own potential.
