Steph Leese, a plasterer with 20 years of experience, is determined to increase female representation in the trades, which currently stands at just 2% in the UK. After being made redundant from a software engineering job, Leese established her own plastering company on Merseyside.
She now hosts the podcast 'Tradeswomen Together' with Hattie Hassan MBE, which has been nominated for an Audio and Radio Industry Award. The podcast aims to discuss issues faced by women in the building trade and inspire them to pursue such careers.
Leese notes significant positive changes in the industry over two decades, with most male colleagues being supportive of women on site. The podcast, which has 22 episodes, is also intended for male colleagues to understand the experiences of their female counterparts.
