A 41-year-old woman, Sammy Evans, experienced profound shock after discovering she was nine months pregnant just hours before giving birth.
Evans had visited a hospital believing she was suffering from period pains or a urinary tract infection (UTI). Doctors revealed she was in active labor.
She explained that she had felt "a bit odd" and noticed changes she attributed to a significant 10-stone weight loss, including missed periods and an abdominal "fat tyre" appearance. These factors, combined with a negative pregnancy test showing a faint line, led her to dismiss any possibility of pregnancy.
After taking antibiotics for a presumed UTI, Evans experienced severe pain and rushed back to the hospital with her father. Further scans confirmed she was in labor, a revelation that initially caused her to fear a miscarriage due to her previous difficult birth.
She managed to inform her partner, Triston McKend, who was working away from their Bournemouth home. The couple, already parents to a nine-year-old son, and with Triston also having a 16-year-old daughter, had not planned further children.
Evans described the overwhelming pain as overshadowing the shock of the unexpected birth. Friends are now planning a baby shower for the new mother.
