Welshman braves Arctic for survival TV show

Andrew Price, a 51-year-old from Swansea, has become the first Welshman to compete in the internationally acclaimed US television show 'Alone: World Championship.' Dropped into the harsh Arctic Circle with only 10 tools and a camera, Price endured extreme cold and isolation, relying on skills honed since childhood.

His journey into survival began with foraging excursions alongside his grandfather, collecting local edibles. This early exposure to nature evolved into a passion for bushcraft, a skill he later shared, notably teaching individuals facing anxiety and depression. Price's commitment to outdoor living also saw him spend months with indigenous communities in Malaysia, learning sustainable subsistence practices.

Price's participation in 'Alone' represents a significant personal challenge, pushing him beyond what he thought possible. He noted that the competition is a personal battle, emphasizing self-reliance and mental fortitude against the elements. The show's environment, particularly temperature fluctuations, presented the greatest difficulty, yet Price found immense value in mastering basic survival tasks like fire-starting for cooking and boiling water.

His efforts on the show have not only tested his limits but also refined his skills as an instructor, fostering greater patience. This international season of 'Alone' featured 10 survivalists from seven countries, with Price proudly representing Wales, aiming to showcase the nation's often overlooked survivalist capabilities.
