A remarkable collection of nearly 200 nativity scenes, amassed by Reverend Canon Captain Clive Deverell, is now on display at St Mary's Church in Lydiard Tregoze. These scenes, gathered from across the globe since the 1990s, offer a unique perspective on the Christmas story.
With the vicar set to retire next year, this exhibition represents the last chance to see his comprehensive collection in its entirety. The display features a variety of pieces, from African and South American artworks to unique items like a football-themed scene from Madrid and a Holy Family on a VW camper.
Reverend Deverell emphasizes the display's role in celebrating the birth of Jesus and fostering community spirit, providing a deeper connection to Christmas beyond seasonal markets. The nativity scenes are accessible to the public on Monday and Tuesday afternoons.
