Varanasi Celebrates Diwali with Vibrant Rituals and Processions

On October 22, 2025, the holy city of Varanasi celebrated Diwali with a vibrant display of rituals and processions. The five-day festival of lights commenced with Dhanteras and reached its peak on Diwali, with the city illuminated by innumerable earthen lamps and spectacular fireworks.

As part of the celebrations, the Yadav Bandhus carried out their traditional Gowardhan Yatra and Annakut Shringar at the Kashi Vishwanath, Annapurna, and other temples. The Gowardhan procession, organized by the Gowardhan Puja Committee, started from Hathua Market and culminated at the Khikiya Ghat, now known as Namo Ghat.

The Kashi Vishwanath Temple also witnessed grand Annakoot celebrations, with the offering of 'chhappan bhog' (56 varieties of sweets and edibles) to Lord Shiva. A procession of the deity's mobile idol was carried out from the Satyanarayan Temple after the Bhog Aarti.

In addition to the Diwali festivities, the city also celebrated Hanuman Jayanti and Kali Puja during this period. The Sankatmochan Temple premises remained abuzz with Hanuman Chalisa recitals, while the organizers of Kali Puja performed rituals to invoke the Goddess during the Mahanishith period.
