Dad raises toddler on cruise ship, shares life at sea

A father from London is embracing an unconventional lifestyle, raising his two-year-old daughter on a cruise ship. Ben Featherstone, who works as a performer, made the decision to bring his family along after accepting a job in April 2025. His wife, Sophie, and their daughter, Piper, now divide their time between their London home and the ship.

Featherstone acknowledges both the glamorous aspects and the significant downsides of calling a cruise ship home. While the family enjoys 24/7 free food, an on-board nursery, and swimming pools, Featherstone admits that being away from home, especially when his family returns to land, is difficult. The demanding work hours also present a challenge.

Despite the unique setting, Featherstone insists Piper is developing well, becoming active and social due to the lifestyle. She attends a baby club on board and thrives on the interactions. The family values the opportunity to travel the world, experience different cultures, and build close bonds with the international crew, who become like a second family.
