Tiger Woods Seeks International Rehab After DUI Arrest
2 Apr
Summary
- Woods seeks overseas treatment for privacy unavailable in US.
- Golfer was arrested for DUI and refusal to submit to a test.
- This is his third known instance of seeking clinical treatment.

Tiger Woods has been granted permission to travel outside the United States to receive comprehensive inpatient treatment. This decision comes after his arrest on charges of driving under the influence (DUI) and refusal to submit to a lawful urinalysis following a two-car rollover crash near his Jupiter Island, Florida, home last Friday.
Woods' attorney, Douglas Duncan, argued in a motion that an "urgent need for a level of care that cannot safely or effectively be done within the United States" exists, citing significant privacy concerns and public exposure as barriers to effective treatment. Woods himself stated he is stepping away to focus on his health and recovery.
This marks the third time Woods has sought clinical treatment for personal issues. Previously, he underwent inpatient treatment in 2009 after multiple affairs were revealed, and in 2017, he completed an intensive program for a sleep disorder and pain management following his first DUI arrest.
The undisclosed overseas facility is expected to provide continuous monitoring and a highly controlled environment to aid his recovery process. Woods has pleaded not guilty to the DUI charges and is seeking a jury trial.
