The book details the abrupt and harsh end to his four-year relationship with his high school sweetheart, Dina Gravell.

Their breakup allegedly occurred in 1998 during a college golf tournament. While Woods was receiving medical attention for a shoulder injury, Gravell reportedly waited hours at their hotel. She was later informed via a letter delivered to her hotel room that Woods and his parents wanted no further contact.

The letter, described as savage, expressed Woods' feelings of being used and manipulated, demanding the return of a necklace. Gravell recalled the experience as devastating, feeling like a death after three years together.

Newsham's biography suggests that this intense pursuit of greatness, dubbed 'Project Tiger,' led Woods to distance himself from others who became 'surplus to requirements,' including a mentor and his former agent.
