Hospice Staff Arranges Dream Wedding for Terminally Ill Couple in 48 Hours

In a heartwarming gesture, the staff at a U.K. hospice helped a terminally ill man and his fiancée tie the knot in just 48 hours.
Karl Marsh, who was diagnosed with cancer in May 2024 and transferred to Katharine House Hospice (KHH) for treatment in October, wed his longtime partner Sarah Wooley on November 9th. The couple, who had initially planned to marry on November 22nd, decided to move up the wedding after Marsh's condition worsened.
The KHH staff sprang into action, transforming their Therapy & Wellbeing Center into a beautiful wedding venue complete with flowers, petals, and a white-carpet aisle. Reverend David Clark, the volunteer chaplain at KHH, was able to secure a special wedding license for the couple in just two days. The hospice also reached out to the local community to secure decorations, a wedding cake, and a top-notch wedding breakfast for the couple and their guests.
Wooley praised the KHH staff, saying, "I have all the love and support from the care team. Nothing is too much trouble." The hospice's Head of Fundraising, Hannah Fahy, called the wedding a "beautiful reminder of what makes our hospice so special," noting that such moments are only possible thanks to the generosity of the community.
