As autumn approaches, farms across Northeast Tennessee are finalizing preparations for their fall festivities. Fender's Farm in Jonesborough began its planning process last November, focusing on growing crops and enhancing attractions. The farm cultivates pumpkins, gourds, and Indian corn, alongside offering 50 different activities, including a corn maze and a sweet shop.
This year's weather significantly reduced the pumpkin yield at Fender's Farm, resulting in approximately half of their usual harvest. To compensate, they are sourcing pumpkins from other local growers. The farm aims to support surrounding businesses by drawing visitors to the area.
Similarly, Myers Farm in Bulls Gap is preparing for its fall opening, which will feature pumpkins, squash, Indian corn, and a large 24-acre corn maze. The farm meticulously plans its crop rotation and seed selection, with planting commencing in June and continuing through the summer.
Both Fender's Farm and Myers Farm are scheduled to open to the public in mid-September, welcoming visitors for seasonal activities and produce.
