Summary
- 17-year-old Marcus to switch on Hull's Christmas lights
- Raised over £160,000 for charity Mind by running across UK
- Awarded Pride of Britain Special Recognition for mental health advocacy

On November 20th, 2025, a 17-year-old fundraiser named Marcus, also known as "The Hull Boy", will have the honor of switching on the Christmas lights in the city of Hull, England. Marcus gained national attention earlier this year when he became the youngest person to run the entire length of the UK, raising over £160,000 for the mental health charity Mind in the process.
Marcus has been open about his own struggles with mental health, and he has used his platform to raise awareness and support for others facing similar challenges. In October 2025, he was awarded a Pride of Britain Special Recognition award for his impressive fundraising efforts and his online work highlighting the importance of mental health.
Now, Marcus will join the Lord Mayor of Hull, Cheryl Payne, to officially kick off the city's holiday celebrations with the lighting ceremony in Queen Victoria Square. The event will also feature a fireworks display, making it a truly festive occasion for the people of Hull.
"It's an honor for me and my family to be asked to turn on the lights," said Marcus. "I've seen it on the television for years. It means the world to us and I cannot wait."
