Iconic Sydney Eatery Makes Surprise Return

Sydneysiders can rejoice as the iconic Chinese Noodle House in the city's CBD is scheduled to reopen its doors on Sunday, February 1, 2026. This comeback follows a brief closure that left many patrons dismayed. The restaurant's original owners, Xinjiang Sun and Susanna Chen, have reclaimed the beloved establishment and are ushering in a new chapter.

The venue, now renamed Chinese Noodle House TG2, boasts a refreshed interior with new paint, tables, and chairs. Its seating capacity has also expanded to accommodate around 40 diners, thanks to the incorporation of the neighboring space. Fan favorites such as braised eggplant and signature noodles will be back on the menu, joined by enticing new offerings like wontons with Sichuan sauce and roast duck pancakes.

The original owners had sold the business to their nephew, Eric Zhang, over a decade ago but remained landlords. The restaurant, under its previous management, had gained significant popularity, leading to long queues upon the announcement of its closure in December 2025 due to a lease non-renewal. This reopening marks a significant return for the Quay Street location.

There has often been confusion between Chinese Noodle House and the similarly named Chinese Noodle Restaurant, both located in the Prince Centre precinct. Both establishments serve Northern Chinese cuisine and share characteristics, including being nicknamed the 'grapes-on-the-ceiling restaurant'. Family ties also connect the two restaurants.
