7 Dec
Summary
- A new study ranked U.S. cities based on well-being metrics.
- Wealthy suburbs and tech hubs often offer lower stress.
- Cities with high median incomes generally score higher.

A recent study has identified U.S. cities offering a more relaxed daily life, contrasting with the stress often associated with major urban centers. Analyzing 500 cities across 42 well-being indicators, the research highlights that many suburban havens and tech hubs provide residents with enhanced quality of life.
These serene communities often boast high median household incomes, exceeding the national average, and offer better access to amenities, improved mental and physical health, and greater financial stability. Cities like San Jose, San Francisco, and Seattle topped the large city rankings, while various midsize and smaller cities also received high marks.
Conversely, cities struggling with economic hardship, high crime rates, and public health challenges ranked at the bottom. Many Americans are actively seeking these calmer, lower-cost environments, leading to a migration away from high-stress, high-cost urban areas toward more peaceful locales.
