Armed Forces Day on June 20th will be the inaugural event for Stockton's new £23m Waterfront urban park. This significant community space, which replaced the Castlegate Shopping Centre and Swallow Hotel, will welcome thousands of visitors for a day of celebration and honor. The festivities include military vehicle displays, a fun fair complete with a 22m Ferris wheel, and a special flypast from the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
The celebrations extend beyond military tributes, incorporating artistic and cultural elements. Over 1,000 schoolchildren have collaborated with artist Mackenzie Thorpe to create clay sculptures, which will be displayed alongside a community art wall. Attendees can also enjoy dance sessions, creative writing activities, and access to the park's new Timber Towers play area. A thanksgiving service for the Armed Forces will be held on a large stage, followed by speeches and an official welcome to the new urban park.
