On September 22nd, 2025, Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar inaugurated the five-day symbolic Cauvery Aarti at the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) dam. To attract more visitors, the iconic KRS dam and its surroundings were specially illuminated, creating a festive ambience.
The Cauvery Aarti, modeled on the famous Ganga Aarti of Varanasi, is a flagship initiative of Shivakumar. Spiritual leaders, including Sri Siddaganga Swami and Nishchalanandanatha Swami of the Vishwa Vokkaliga Mahasamsthana Mutt, attended the event. The rituals were performed by priests from the Nimishamba Temple.
Shivakumar emphasized that the Cauvery Aarti is not just for Mandya or Kodagu, but for the entire state. "Mother Cauvery does not belong only to Mandya or Kodagu. She flows into the Arabian Sea after reaching Tamil Nadu. We are bowing to that Mother," he said. The DCM revealed plans to build a grand, stadium-like structure at a cost of Rs 100 crore to host cultural and devotional performances.
