A group of women aged between 70 and 87 have formed what they believe to be Britain's oldest cheerleading squad, the Mayfield Bells. The members, all from Mayfield Retirement Village in Watford, were motivated to start the team after watching the Netflix film Poms.
After approximately eight weeks of practice, the Mayfield Bells, sporting Santa hats and pom-poms, performed for an audience at the Harlequin shopping centre. Despite initial nerves, the group received a warm reception, with many shoppers pausing to watch and record their energetic routine.
One of the group's founders expressed elation and emotion following the successful debut, noting the unexpected public interest. The seniors even joked about auditioning for Britain's Got Talent, believing they could fit in well with the show's diverse acts.
