Scarborough Lot to Become Homeless Micro-Home Village

A former parking lot in southwest Scarborough, near Danforth and Birchmount roads, is being prepared for a new micro-home community aimed at supporting people experiencing homelessness. The project is led by 'Tiny Tiny Homes,' a Toronto-based non-profit.

The organization secured a three-year lease for the property at $1 per year. Approximately $350,000 is needed to complete the construction, with 20% already raised. The goal is to have 10 units, each 96 square feet and pet-friendly, ready for occupancy by December 31, 2026.

Brent's Place, named in memory of a former resident, will also feature communal washrooms, showers, and programming space. A social worker will be on-site weekdays to assist residents, while Sefonias Catering will provide meals.

The City of Toronto is reviewing the proposal to ensure it meets all zoning and regulatory requirements. This initiative aims to provide a cost-effective, temporary solution and a pathway to permanent housing for vulnerable individuals.
