Farm in the Dell offers a unique rural lifestyle and purposeful work for adults with intellectual disabilities near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Established in 2010, the non-profit operates a bustling farm providing a strong sense of community and connection to the land for its 17 residents and day program participants.
The initiative, modeled after a successful US program, focuses on capable individuals engaging in various tasks like gardening, animal care, and woodworking. This past year, clients have seen significant life improvements, gaining pride in their work and the support of a large, family-like community. About 40 staff members facilitate these activities and community outings.
Building on its success, Farm in the Dell recently opened a second group home in Biggar, Sask., on 100 donated acres. This expansion aims to support more individuals and families, addressing a significant need. The organization requires approximately $3 million annually from the Ministry of Social Services to maintain its two locations.
