The 66-year-old former Duchess had been staying at the Mayrlife resort in Altaussee for 213 days, having vanished from public view in December 2025. Her sanctuary was reportedly compromised after her location became known, leading to her departure.

During her stay, Ferguson was pictured at the £2,000-a-night apartment, a place she had previously called a "safe place" following her cancer diagnosis. Reports suggest she ordered meals through room service and had a visiting hairstylist in March 2026. It remains unclear how she funded the extensive stay, with speculation arising due to her reported financial difficulties.

Ferguson had been traveling across Europe since December 2025, having last been seen in the UK for her granddaughter's christening. Recent Epstein revelations in late January 2026, which detailed her friendship with Jeffrey Epstein and a visit with her daughters to him in 2009, have further impacted her public image. She has also been dropped as a patron by several charities in recent months.
