Santa Fe, New Mexico, has been crowned the 'Best City in the U.S.' for the second consecutive year according to the latest Travel + Leisure World's Best Awards. Released on July 7, 2026, the accolades are based on reader votes.
Readers favored Santa Fe for its "more than 300 days of sunshine a year," its "robust food scene," and "cultural attractions." The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum was highlighted as a key cultural draw. Last year, Santa Fe displaced Charleston, South Carolina, from the top position after Charleston had held the title since 2013. Charleston has now rebounded to secure second place in the 2026 awards.
Following Santa Fe and Charleston, Savannah, Georgia, New Orleans, and Chicago completed the top five domestic cities. Globally, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, took the top spot, followed by Kyoto, Japan, and Chiang Mai, Thailand. The full results will appear in the August issue of Travel + Leisure, available on newsstands July 17, 2026.
