Richard Kirk, a former volunteer lifeboatman, has been recognized with a Long Service Award for his over 30 years with the RNLI. He joined the Cromer RNLI at just 19 years old after being captivated by an emergency launch in 1989. During his tenure, Kirk served in numerous capacities, including navigator and shore crew, and is credited with contributing to the rescue of 27 lives.
Kirk expressed that the lifeboat station was like a "second family," emphasizing the profound sense of belonging and purpose he found there. He fondly recalled his time, noting that despite experiencing rough weather, he always felt safe aboard the lifeboat. He stepped down from his volunteer role in November 2023, reflecting on the invaluable skills and camaraderie gained.
John Redmond, the lifeboat operations manager at Cromer RNLI, praised Kirk's "exceptional" dedication and the "real difference" his skilled and passionate commitment made. The RNLI community is deeply grateful for his extensive service and the impact he has had on the station and its lifesaving mission.
