Volunteering with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) has become a profound family tradition for Emily Craven and her fiance, Tom.
Their engagement took place on a lifeboat, and their first child, Harry, has been a frequent visitor to the New Brighton station since he was just weeks old. Emily herself joined the RNLI crew in 2019, inspired by Tom, and quickly found a passion for the work.
Currently expecting her second child, Emily is temporarily on land-based duties. She is undergoing training to become a Lifeboat Press Officer while awaiting her return to active sea rescue missions. This transition allows her to remain involved despite her pregnancy.
During her time as a crew member, Emily participated in significant rescues, including a 2020 operation to save a man and his dog from treacherous waters. This particular rescue earned her and the crew a Certificate of Commendation three years later.
Emily's son, Harry, shares in the family's dedication by often waving off launches and greeting the crew upon their return. The RNLI station is a central part of their family life, hosting events like barbecues.
