Riyadh Transforms into Vibrant Indian Mela, Celebrating Diversity

As of November 6th, 2025, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is celebrating the inaugural India Week festival as part of the second edition of the Global Harmony initiative. The festivities, organized by the Ministry of Media in collaboration with the General Entertainment Authority (GEA), are taking place at Suwaidi Park in Riyadh, transforming the space into a colorful Indian mela.

The event showcases a diverse array of Indian cultural elements, including traditional music, dance, handicrafts, and cuisine. Visitors can enjoy the beats of London Thumakda played by an Indian DJ, marvel at the intricate mehendi designs, and browse the stalls of a bangle seller from Rajasthan. Vibrant puppet shows delight the children, while families and friends come together to immerse themselves in the lively atmosphere.

The India Week celebration is a testament to Saudi Arabia's growing commitment to promoting inclusivity, coexistence, and cultural exchange. According to the Indian ambassador to the Kingdom, the event is a "beautiful celebration of Indian culture" that allows Saudi friends to enjoy the diverse aspects of Indian heritage. For many Indians living in Saudi Arabia, the festival offers a comforting sense of belonging, with one attendee describing it as the "closest I have felt to home at an event."

The Global Harmony initiative, of which India Week is the inaugural celebration, aims to highlight the lives and contributions of the diverse residents living in the Kingdom and their successful integration into Saudi society. This event is part of the Quality of Life Program supporting Saudi Vision 2030, underscoring the country's efforts to foster a more inclusive and culturally vibrant society.
