Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington has spoken openly about her experiences with two miscarriages over three years. She revealed on a podcast that she and her husband, Andy Parsons, sought counseling through the charity The Petals to help them cope with their profound loss. This therapy proved instrumental in their healing process, enabling them to communicate without overwhelming sadness and fostering the ability to attempt another pregnancy.
Following her first miscarriage in August 2022 and a second in October 2023, Adlington recently announced the birth of her third child, a daughter named Thea. This longed-for "rainbow baby" arrived after a pregnancy marked by considerable anxiety, a common feeling after experiencing such profound loss. Adlington shared that the journey to bringing Thea into the world involved "three years, two miscarriages, 39 weeks carrying our magical rainbow girl, and 87 hours in hospital."
Adlington also highlighted the lack of support for partners during miscarriage, noting that her husband Andy was rarely approached about his grief. She emphasized the importance of shared support, especially given that the loss was also his child. Additionally, the swimming champion touched upon the growing concerns around body image among young girls, even in early childhood, noting increased exposure to societal pressures from a young age.
