Rebecca Adlington's Pregnancy Anxiety After Miscarriages
11 Mar
Summary
- Adlington experienced crippling anxiety during her third pregnancy.
- She suffered two miscarriages, one at 20 weeks, prior to this birth.
- The couple avoided discussing baby names due to fear of jinxing.

Former Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington shared her experience of severe anxiety during her third pregnancy. The anxiety stemmed from two previous miscarriages, one of which occurred at 20 weeks. This led Adlington and her husband, Andy Parsons, to adopt a cautious approach to the pregnancy.
They found it hard to fully embrace the reality of the impending birth, even avoiding discussions about baby names. Adlington explained this was due to a deep-seated fear that acknowledging the reality could somehow cause them to lose the baby. This apprehension persisted even late into the pregnancy.
Adlington gave birth to her daughter, Thea Joy, last month. The birth occurred on the same day her grandmother passed away, a coincidence Adlington described as a "full circle moment of life." Thea Joy's middle name, Joy, is a tribute to her late grandmother.
This new arrival marks the completion of their family, with Adlington also raising her son Albie, two, with Andy, and her daughter Summer, eight, from a previous marriage. The journey to welcoming Thea Joy was described as a 'rollercoaster', involving three years, two miscarriages, and 87 hours in hospital.
