From November 1, 2026, to March 7, 2027, the Great Rann of Kutch in Gujarat will host the Rann Utsav. This annual festival turns the vast white salt desert into a vibrant cultural spectacle. Operated in collaboration with Gujarat Tourism, the event is centered around a temporary Tent City in the village of Dhordo.
The festival is a dynamic celebration of Kutch's living traditions, offering visitors a deep dive into the region's artistic heritage and unique desert ecosystem. Days are typically spent exploring the stunning salt flats, while evenings come alive with traditional music, folk dances, and local cuisine. The minimal light pollution offers exceptional stargazing opportunities.
Beyond the cultural performances and craft markets, which feature Ajrakh printing, embroidery, and mud art, the Rann Utsav also draws attention to Kutch's historical significance. A notable route, the 'Road to Heaven,' leads to Dholavira, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a key archaeological settlement of the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation.
The Rann Utsav's extended four-month duration allows for a leisurely exploration of Kutch's dramatic scenery, resilient communities, and ancient past. It offers a distinctive blend of contemporary cultural celebrations and historical discovery, making each visit memorable.
