King Charles III and Queen Camilla recently attended the "Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life In Style" exhibition at The King's Gallery, Buckingham Palace. This extensive display features over 300 items from the late Queen's wardrobe, many shown for the first time, chronicling the evolution of her style.
During the visit, King Charles reminisced about his mother, pointing out her riding attire and wartime uniform, and sharing the exhibition's ability to evoke poignant memories. Queen Camilla expressed admiration for the craftsmanship of the coronation gown and delight in seeing items from the Queen's childhood, including ballet shoes.
The exhibition, running from April 10 to October 18, highlights Queen Elizabeth II's "close involvement in the creation of her wardrobe" and her use of fashion as a diplomatic tool. It includes unique pieces such as a maternity evening dress from 1948, private trousers, and a rare plastic coat, alongside her wedding and coronation gowns, and accessories from numerous royal tours.
Curator Caroline de Guitaut noted the exceptional preservation of the garments, a point remarked upon by His Majesty, and discussed conservation efforts. Contemporary designers Erdem and Christopher Kane also have outfits on display, inspired by the Queen's fashion. The exhibition emphasizes the late monarch's dedication to championing British fashion and her sophisticated approach to "diplomatic dressing."
