A Michigan breeder recently experienced a first when a 10-week-old mini goldendoodle named Goldie had to be returned by his new family. Goldie was flown to Florida on October 31, but the owner contacted the breeder days later, reporting severe allergies. The breeder, Allie Mahoski, agreed to take Goldie back, opting for a flight nanny to bring him to Michigan instead of him going to a shelter.
Upon his return, Goldie received a thorough veterinary check-up, including tests for common illnesses and booster vaccinations. Following a quarantine period, the process to find him a new home began again. Mahoski noted that this was an unusual situation, as puppy returns are rare for her breeding program, especially due to allergies, which affect a significant portion of the population.
While some on social media questioned the allergy claim, attributing it to a change of heart, the breeder emphasized the complexities of pet allergies and dog breeds. Fortunately, Goldie has since been placed in a new home that appears to be a perfect fit, and Mahoski has implemented more rigorous screening to ensure future placements are successful.
