Pune Housing Societies Defy Rainy Navaratra with Innovative Celebrations
28 Sep, 2025
Summary
- Pune residents shift Navaratra celebrations indoors to makeshift sheds and weather shields
- Housing societies rearrange spaces, install tents, and adjust plans to host music, dance, and festivities
- Residents wear designated colors and participate in competitions despite the rain

As of September 28th, 2025, the rainy weather in Pune has failed to dampen the Navaratra spirit of the city's garba and dandiya enthusiasts. Housing societies across Pune have adapted their celebrations to the inclement conditions, shifting their traditional outdoor events to makeshift sheds, weather shields, and covered spaces.
In Kothrud, Pradeep Kulkarni's housing society had installed a weather shield over the open temple area years ago to protect their festival decor, and this has now come in handy during the Navaratra celebrations. Similarly, in Baner, the Gandhis, who are in charge of the dance nights at their society, have moved their big weekend event from the garden to the parking lot, with residents clearing out over a hundred cars to create the necessary space.
Residents in various housing societies have shown remarkable flexibility and enthusiasm in rearranging their plans. In Pimple Nilakh, children practicing garba in the garden have happily taken over the covered parking area, while in Kharadi, the housing society committee hired a tent contractor to cover their central courtyard with a bright red canopy, adding a rhythmic ambiance to the music and dance.
Despite the constant drizzle, Pune's housing societies are determined to host Navaratra and exemplify that the spirit of celebration finds a way, even in the face of inclement weather.
