Princess Anne recently visited the West Mid Showground in Shrewsbury, engaging with volunteers from West Mercia Search and Rescue. The royal engagement highlighted the critical work undertaken by these dedicated individuals.
One notable attendee was Kirsty Walsh, an ambassador for the charity. Walsh shared her poignant personal connection to the organization, explaining her involvement stemmed from a profound personal loss.
Her husband, Shane Walsh, tragically drowned in the River Severn in 2017. This devastating event prompted Walsh to support West Mercia Search and Rescue, a cause she had not previously known.
In remembrance of her husband and to prevent other families from enduring similar heartbreak, Walsh co-founded the 'Home and Dry' course. This initiative aims to educate and prevent water-related fatalities.
