On October 2, 2025, Princess Kate toured the RAF Coningsby base for the first time since being appointed as its Royal Honorary Air Commodore. During her visit, Kate met with Quick Reaction Alert personnel, explored a Typhoon aircraft, and visited the Typhoon Future Synthetic Training facility.
The Princess of Wales shared that her children were envious they couldn't join her on the tour. In particular, Kate revealed that her 4-year-old son Prince Louis is excited about the prospect of becoming a pilot. However, the royal mother plans to be upfront with Louis, telling him that becoming a pilot requires 8 years of training and a significant amount of hard work.
Princess Kate and her husband Prince William have a personal connection to the Royal Air Force, as William trained and served with the British Army branch before taking on a full-time royal role in 2017. Kate's late grandfather, Captain Peter Middleton, was also a RAF pilot who even co-piloted with Prince Philip during a tour of South America in 1962.
