7 Nov
Summary
- 20% more personnel deployed for 2026 Magh Mela
- 17 police stations, 40 outposts, 20 fire stations set up
- Elaborate barricading, parking, signage, and public address system planned

In preparation for the upcoming 2026 Magh Mela in Prayagraj, top police officials have finalized a comprehensive security blueprint to ensure the safety and security of the massive crowds expected to attend the 44-day spiritual festival.
The enhanced security measures will see a 20% increase in personnel deployment compared to the previous year's Magh Mela. This will include the setup of 17 police stations, one Mahila Thana (women's police station), 40 police outposts, 20 fire stations, 10 watch towers, mahila help desks, cyber help desks, bomb disposal squads, anti-sabotage teams, and several companies of paramilitary forces.
To manage the flow of devotees and pilgrims, especially on the main bathing days, the mela ground spanning around 1,000 hectares will be divided into four zones and seven sectors. Elaborate barricading, fixed parking slots, maps, and signboards in multiple languages, including English and Hindi, will be introduced to provide safe passages and control the crowds. A Public Address System (PAS) will also be set up to counter any potential rumors.
The authorities are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a safe and secure Magh Mela experience for the millions of devotees expected to participate in the 2026 edition of the festival, which will begin on January 3 and culminate with Mahashivratri bathing on February 15.
