Four years ago, he underwent lifesaving surgery at Leeds General Infirmary following a viral infection that caused a fractured vertebra. After a period of rehabilitation, he returned to his duties, gradually building up his strength.
Inspired by the care he received, Welch decided to combine his passion for art and his daily walks. He now approaches property owners, offering to sketch their homes based on photographs. Each pen-and-ink artwork takes approximately 15 hours to complete. The owners then make a donation to the Leeds Hospitals Charity, a cause close to Welch's heart. To date, his artistic efforts have successfully raised over £1,500 for the charity, demonstrating remarkable dedication and creativity.
