Peacock's Mirror Obsession Sparks Suburb-Wide Chase

A pet peacock named Hex became the subject of a week-long search across Alexandra Hills after he was discovered admiring his own reflection in a residential bathroom mirror. Wildlife officers released Hex into nearby bushland, but he continued to wander into backyards, prompting a widespread community effort to locate him, with residents sharing his movements on social media.

Hex was eventually captured by a friend of his owners, but sadly, he had acquired several ticks during his time on the run. This led to a critical veterinary visit, where initial prognoses were grim. However, veterinarians administered an antiserum usually reserved for dogs, which proved surprisingly effective, saving Hex's life.

Now safely home, Hex has been reunited with his peahen, Nyx. His owners, tattoo artist Elliot Ross and Cassie Alexander, shared that Hex might have been seeking a companion, as it's breeding season. An urban ecologist noted that while birds often see reflections as rivals, Hex might have been experiencing loneliness, highlighting the unusual social behavior of this adventurous peacock.
