In a poignant tribute to his late partner, Nicola Burton, James Williams undertook a strenuous 12-hour weightlifting marathon last Friday. This event, held on what would have been Nicola's 57th birthday, saw Williams lift an impressive 610 tonnes. His accomplishment surpassed his initial goal of 570 tonnes, symbolizing one tonne for every year of Nicola's life. The marathon was organized to raise funds for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice. Nicola, who hailed from Bingley, passed away in 2023 following a diagnosis of melanoma. Throughout her illness, she received dedicated care at home from Sue Ryder nurses. Williams, who stepped back from his work to care for Nicola, emphasized the crucial support he received from Sue Ryder. He stated that the organization provided essential emotional support during the challenging period of caring for a loved one with cancer, leaving a significant void in his life following her passing.
