The development at Top Wighay farm, near Hucknall and Linby, is being built by Vistry and will comprise 763 homes. Gedling Borough Council has put forward street names that include Pancake Way and Denmark Road, referencing a historical account of Vikings being deterred by locals after a substantial breakfast.
This tale, dating back to the 9th century, tells of local women rustling up pancakes and using frying pans as makeshift weapons against the invading Great Heathen Army. The proposed street names also pay tribute to miners who tragically lost their lives at Linby Colliery, further embedding local heritage into the new community.
