UK's Oldest Lioness Dies Before 21st Birthday

A beloved lioness, Jasira, who was among the oldest in the United Kingdom, has passed away. She died just months shy of celebrating her 21st birthday. Jasira held the significant role of matriarch for one of the two lion prides at Longleat safari park, located in Wiltshire.

Park management acknowledged the sadness of losing an animal but expressed pride in Jasira's long life, noting it as a testament to the high standard of care provided. Longleat, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary, also announced plans to expand its lion population by introducing a new pride.

This expansion will include the arrival of two female southern lions. In an engaging public initiative, visitors are invited to participate in a vote to name the new arrivals, with the chosen names to be revealed later this month.
