Summary
- Niwa, a Japanese concept, is opening late September.
- The restaurant features a collaborative menu and Japanese garden.
- Chefs behind Michelin-starred Emelina are developing the menu.

A new Japanese dining experience, Niwa, is slated to open in West Palm Beach's Flamingo Park in late September. This ambitious venture is spearheaded by Álvaro Perez Miranda, the same entrepreneur whose Cuban restaurant, Emelina, achieved a Michelin star in 2026. Niwa, which translates to "garden" in Japanese, will feature a significant Japanese garden and a tea component.
The culinary direction for Niwa is a collaboration between chefs Osmel González and Masayuki Komatsu. Their menu will draw talent from Perez Miranda's wider restaurant portfolio, integrating Japanese cuisine with Latin and tropical flavors specifically for the Palm Beach County palate. Preliminary menu concepts include raw offerings like Florida oysters and Japanese sea bream, alongside dishes such as Key Lime somen noodles and mojo-marinated wagyu.
Perez Miranda envisions Niwa as a versatile establishment, with an average check of around $80 per person, but also accommodating guests seeking tea, matcha lattes, or lighter meals. The interior design emphasizes a calm, understated atmosphere with pale green walls, dark wood finishes, and curated ceramics, reflecting Perez Miranda's background in art dealing. This new concept aims to broaden the culinary conversation by merging Japanese cooking, tea culture, and local Florida ingredients.
