A tiny shih tzu, affectionately named Nelly, was found abandoned outside a veterinary surgery over the weekend. She was discovered shivering, wheezing, and wrapped in an old coat, exhibiting severely matted fur and a concerning leg injury.
Upon arrival at Rescue Me Animal Sanctuary, staff were shocked by the extent of Nelly's neglect. A dog groomer who attended described the smell as the worst she had ever encountered and Nelly’s fur was so matted it concealed a significant wound.
Nelly has since undergone veterinary treatment, including an operation and medication, and received a thorough grooming. The sanctuary is now caring for her recovery, with plans to find her a foster home and eventually a permanent owner. This incident highlights a severe case of animal neglect.
