On August 30, 2023, a Nebraska man caused a stir on U.S. Highway 275 when he was spotted driving a modified Ford Crown Victoria with a 2,200-pound African Watusi bull as a passenger. The vehicle was significantly altered, with half the windshield and passenger roof removed and a cattle gate serving as the passenger door to accommodate the massive animal. Authorities in Norfolk, Nebraska, received numerous confused calls from motorists before initiating a traffic stop.
Police identified the driver as Lee Meyer, accompanied by his bull, Howdy Doody, a companion for nearly a decade. The pair are well-known locally and had recently received an award for 'Best Car Entry' in a parade. Despite the unusual sight, law enforcement issued warnings for traffic violations and instructed Meyer to return home with his bull.
Meyer complied, driving the custom-built vehicle approximately 36 miles back to Neligh, Nebraska. His wife commented on the significant cost of the project, joking that the funds could have been used for a new kitchen. The incident concluded without further issues, leaving residents with a memorable roadside spectacle.
