A humble diner on Nantucket, famously a destination for billionaires, has earned a remarkable reputation for producing lottery millionaires. Old South Diner, combined with its adjacent convenience store and Chinese eatery, Dragon by the Sea, has sold four scratch-off tickets valued at one million dollars or more since March 2024.
The most recent success story involves Yancy Contreras Menjivar, who claimed a $2 million jackpot on Wednesday from the brand-new Massachusetts $2,000,000 Stacked ticket game. The 26-year-old opted for a one-time payout of $1.3 million and plans to save her winnings. This latest win provided the businesses with a $20,000 payout, adding to the $60,000 in bonuses already received from previous instant millionaires.
The streak of luck began in March 2024 with Jose Fontanez, who won $1 million. This was followed by Garen Downie winning $2 million in May 2024, and Nantucket chef Sean Durnin securing $1 million in August 2024. Despite a hiatus, manager Vinod VK believes the diner's luck will continue.
Massachusetts Lottery officials noted that multiple big winners from the same location are not uncommon, attributing it to sales volume. Old South Diner has consistently ranked among the top agents in recent years, highlighting its potential for creating instant millionaires.
