Nagpur's 24/7 Shops Empower Women, Boost Confidence
3 Oct, 2025
Summary
- Women feel safer, more independent moving around Nagpur at night
- Shops and restaurants staying open 24/7 reduces sense of isolation
- Younger women enjoy more leisure time and evening outings

As of October 3rd, 2025, the government's circular allowing round-the-clock operations for shops, restaurants, and commercial establishments in Nagpur has received strong support from the city's women. Many have expressed a newfound sense of safety, convenience, and independence when moving around Nagpur at night.
For several women, late-night work shifts and essential errands were previously tied to concerns about deserted streets. However, with more activity expected after dark, they believe the change will make the city feel more welcoming and inclusive. Vedika Nair, a 24-year-old who works late-night shifts, shared that the move has already made a significant difference, as she no longer needs her father to pick her up from work.
The decision has also eased everyday struggles for women like Mehek Kaur, 23, who avoided stepping out for small tasks at night due to safety concerns. Now, with more shops open and activity around, she can confidently run errands on her own. Younger women, such as 21-year-old Sneha Nande, also feel more comfortable stepping out in the evenings, as the lively atmosphere reduces the sense of isolation.
Women across Nagpur believe this step is not just about convenience but also about building trust in public spaces. With increased activity and visibility, they are hopeful that the city can gradually develop a more inclusive and safer culture for women after dark.
