Summary
- Thousands of devotees participated in vibrant immersion processions on Anant Chaturdashi.
- Monsoon rains did not dampen the spirits of enthusiastic devotees dancing through the city.
- Traditional offerings like modaks and laddoos were given before the deity's departure.
On Anant Chaturdashi, Nagpur concluded its 12-day Ganesh festival with thousands of devotees participating in emotional immersion processions. Despite persistent monsoon showers, the city's streets came alive with music, dance, and fervent chants of "Ganpati Bappa Morya." The rhythmic accompaniment of dhol-tasha, sandal, and brass bands created a festive atmosphere throughout the day and into the night.
Traditional customs included offering modaks and laddoos to Lord Ganesha as provisions for his journey, accompanied by the hopeful call of "Pudchya varshi lavkar ya" (come back soon next year). Prominent mandals, including the historic Tulshibag Ganpati and the 107-year-old Dakshinamurti Swayamsevak Ganeshotsav Mandal, organized grand processions. For many, the visarjan was a deeply emotional experience, marking a temporary separation from a beloved presence.
Families and neighborhoods embraced their own immersion traditions, with some opting for eco-friendly methods like bucket immersions. The participation of children and youth was notable, with the rain adding to their festive spirit. The farewell also signaled the end of elaborate pandal decorations and daily darshan queues that had characterized the festival across Nagpur.
