In October 2025, the tourism department in Mysuru, India has launched a new initiative to promote digital tourism in the city. The department has installed QR code portals at 33 key tourist spots, including the Mysuru Palace, Chamundi Hills, the Rail Museum, and the residence of renowned author R.K. Narayan.
By simply scanning the QR codes at these sites, visitors can now access detailed information about the historical, cultural, and heritage significance of the landmarks. The tourism department hopes this will enrich the overall tourist experience and provide easy access to verified data about Mysuru's local attractions.
The other tourist spots equipped with the new QR code portals include the Mysuru zoo, Shukavana in Avadootha Datta Peetam, the Silver Jubilee Clock Tower, the Oriental Research Centre, Jaganmohan Palace, and several temples in the surrounding areas. The information is available in multiple languages, including Kannada, English, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu.
The tourism department introduced this initiative as part of its efforts to promote digital tourism and attract more visitors to Mysuru. Officials say they plan to extend the QR code portal facility to other prominent tourist sites in the district and offer virtual and audio tours using digital media.
