A group of over 30 individuals from Muslim Hikers has successfully completed a challenging trek to Everest base camp, raising a significant £50,000 for Charity Right. This expedition aimed to provide regular school meals to combat child hunger and promote diversity in outdoor activities.
Led by Haroon Mota, the trek faced extreme conditions, including temperatures as low as -20C. Mota himself battled long Covid and a chest infection, highlighting the physical demands and personal triumphs involved. Participants traveled from across the globe, including the US, Australia, and the Middle East, showcasing the group's international reach.
Muslim Hikers, founded during the pandemic, is dedicated to increasing representation and creating role models within the outdoor community. This successful Everest expedition builds on their previous initiatives, including 32 hiking events for over 4,000 people last year.
