Xcaret Monkey Steals Clothes, Goes Viral on TikTok

During a vacation in Xcaret, Mexico, a visitor left a balcony door open for a brief period, resulting in a monkey entering the hotel room. The incident was documented in a now-viral TikTok video that has garnered millions of views.

The footage features a spider monkey, native to the Riviera Maya region, exploring the room. The animal was observed relaxing on the bed and taking a garment from the bedding before leaving the room. This species, along with howler monkeys, inhabits protected areas in the Riviera Maya.

Experts advise specific protocols for such encounters, emphasizing remaining calm and avoiding engagement with the animal. Guests should secure themselves in another room and contact resort staff or authorities. These guidelines are crucial for ensuring human safety and the well-being of the wildlife, preventing habituation.
