Davison County 4-H Achievement Days in Mitchell embraced community engagement with a slate of public events alongside traditional showcases. New attractions, including 'Touch a Truck' and 'Painting the Plows,' were introduced on Monday, Aug. 3, designed to attract families unfamiliar with 4-H.
The 'Touch a Truck' event offered children an up-close look at emergency and public service vehicles. Simultaneously, 'Painting the Plows' saw community members decorate county snowplows, fostering a unique collaboration between the Mitchell Area Arts Council and the Davison County Highway Department.
These activities culminated in an evening community barbecue, complete with family attractions like bounce houses and a dunk tank. The annual Ag Olympics followed, featuring local business owners and volunteers competing in surprise challenges, aiming to make agriculture more accessible and entertaining for all.
Beyond these featured events, Achievement Days also includes an open class exhibit area for public entries and visits from local day cares and the Mitchell Training Center, all contributing to the broader goal of community involvement and agricultural education.
