Veteran Overcomes Suicide Attempt, Receives Furnace Donation

In the days leading up to Veterans Day 2025, a Mounds View, Minnesota man named Tanner Wilde is receiving a special gift. Wilde, a veteran who served in Afghanistan, northeast Syria, and Bangladesh during the COVID-19 pandemic, had faced a difficult battle upon returning home.

After his third traumatic brain injury, Wilde found himself in immense pain and contemplated suicide. However, with the urging of his wife, he sought help and began to recover. "When you are in it, you're riding it. But that doesn't have to be the end of it," Wilde said.

Recognizing Wilde's journey, Snelling Heating, Cooling and Electrical in St. Paul decided to gift him a brand-new furnace, free of charge. "Just a small way we could recognize him for Veterans Day and try and honor him and his service," said Elizabeth Krinkie of Snelling.

Now, with his wife, daughters, and service dog Taz by his side, Wilde is focused on rediscovering his purpose and helping other veterans who may be struggling with their own mental health battles. "I have found joy again. I have found a re-instilled purpose when the military was all I ever knew," he said.
